GR Shows their love of Bagel Gourmet
On March 1st, 2020 Glen Rock Said Goodbye to a staple of downtown Glen Rock. Joe Marrara decided it was time to move on to a new adventure after feeding Glen Rock bagels, sandwiches, and more for 34 years.
Joe, Coach (Rob Wilson) and the rest of the gang celebrated with friends and family on the last day. With heavy hearts, we said goodbye to them and will miss the conversations. On a positive note, Goldberg Famous Bagels will be taking over Bagel Gourmet and keeping us full of bagels, flagels, and even new treats as Goldbergs Famous Bagels. In addition to their regulars stopping by and wishing them good luck, U.S. Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5) also visited Gourmet Bagels in Glen Rock to celebrate and congratulate the owner Joe Marrara for over 30 years of business.
“I want to thank Joe Marrara and his family for inviting me here today to celebrate their 34 years of business within the Glen Rock community,” said U.S. Congressman Josh Gottheimer. “Gourmet Bagels has been a staple in Glen Rock and has been open 365 days a year with over 8 million bagels served. I’m happy that the dream of Gourmet Bagels will live on under new ownership as Goldberg’s Famous Bagels.”
Several years ago Joe explained how he got into the bagel business. Listen here to find out. ( interview by Eileen Hillock)
Hillock, commented on the closing of Bagel Gourmet, “Yesterday marked the end of 26 years of grabbing my morning coffee from Bagel Gourmet. It was a bittersweet Bon Voyage Party. I’ll always remember the friends I met and the stories we shared as a result of this simple routine of daily life in Glen Rock. Thanks for the coffee, bagels and conversation Joe, Coach and your amazing staff of local kids I met through the years. I wish you the best of luck in your next adventures. Slainte!"
