Glen Rock Tree Lighting goes VirtualDec 01, 2020 04:03PM ● By Glen Rock for the Holidays Committee
It’s with great sadness that the Glen Rock for the Holidays Committee is canceling Live Attendance at our annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony this upcoming Saturday, December 5th. We so hoped to share the Merry with those of you that RSVP'd via Eventbrite.
Though we had kept our attendance numbers smaller than required by the Governor’s Executive Order, were providing masks to those in attendance, were not allowing any contact with Santa and Mrs. Claus, and had measures in place for social distancing – that’s no longer enough. While new limits for outdoor gatherings go into effect on Sunday, the Committee will be proactive in limiting attendance at our Live Event to less than 25 people (Committee members and GRTV).
We’re grateful for the support of the Mayor and Council. The Glen Rock for the Holidays Committee agrees that all Glen Rockers need to “ensure the safety of our residents”. Our concerns and desire to limit attendance has been ongoing, and we have been in regular contact with the Mayor and Council, Police Chief Ackerman and the borough’s Office of Emergency Management.
We appreciate Councilperson Mary Barchetto’s personal comments in her letter to Chairperson Michelle Torpey, “The Mayor and Council, as well as OEM, greatly appreciate your efforts to provide some cheer for our community while maintaining safety and following the Governor's Executive Orders. Unfortunately, with the increase in cases and the new executive order, the landscape has changed.”
We agree that the landscape is changing, and our Ceremony is changing too. We respectfully request that all residents remain at home this year and attend the Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony VIRTUALLY.
The GOOD NEWS – our Virtual Event was already in place in order to limit Live Attendance at the Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony. Tune in to GRTV (Fios Channel 32, Optimum Channel 77) and Youtube starting at 4:45 pm with a GR Holiday Memories video. Live Christmas Tree Lighting at 5 pm.
Santa’s Mailbox will be outside of Kilroy’s, under the awning, accepting letters. The PBA’s Toys for Tots drop-off location will be at the GR Police Station, One Harding Plaza.
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays,
Your Glen Rock for the Holidays Committee
